Laboratory Technician
We are currently looking to fill a full-time position for a Laboratory Technician. Responsibilities of the role will primarily include work in our new asphalt laboratory. We are in the process of having the lab certified by CCIL for mix design and quality control testing.
Specific duties are expected to include (but not limited to):

Preparation of Marshall HMA mix designs and asphalt mix design review.

Carrying out asphalt (Marshall) quality control and quality assurance testing in compliance with testing requirements and certification.

Review test results to document and advise on any discrepancies identified in OPSS 1150 and OPSS 1151.

Ability to maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and carry out routine repairs to testing equipment to keep it in good working condition, including associated record-keeping.

Coordinating with geotechnical team members to ensure project schedules and quality control standards are achieved.
Requirements of the successful candidate:
-
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology / Construction Technology or equivalent program.

The preferred candidate will have technical knowledge of asphalt and aggregate quality.

Current CCIL Certification for asphalt and aggregates testing is considered an asset.

Minimum 2 years of applicable laboratory experience.

Ability to prepare and interpret lab results.
-
Excellent organizational skills, and an ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
-
Ability to work with minimal supervision and within a close-knit team environment.
Field Technician / Inspector
We are currently looking to fill a full-time position a field technician / inspector role which will work with our Land Development (Civil) and Geotechnical Engineering teams. Field staff are typically responsible for carrying out surveying and layout work, and geotechnical inspection and testing services to confirm the quality of the materials being used. Site inspections are required to ensure that project specification and applicable municipal and provincial standards are satisfied. Typical duties may include the following:

Providing oversight and quality control of technical services in a field, office and laboratory environment;

Monitoring Site Grading Activities (including surveying);
-
Surveying, layout and inspection, using a variety of surveying technologies;
-
Test Pit and/or Borehole Supervision and Soil Identification;
-
Soil and Groundwater Sample Collection;
-
Insitu Density and Compaction Testing for soils and asphalt;
-
Inspection of Erosion and Sediment Control measures; and,
-
Preparation of Technical Site Inspection Reports.
Field staff are also expected to assist with other field and lab activities, as required.
Successful candidates will be expected to be flexible, well organized, and able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Strong report writing skills and effective communications are essential. Preference will be given to candidates studying fields related to Civil or Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Environmental Studies. Familiarity with CSA, CCIL and ASTM standards would be beneficial.
A working knowledge of CSA, CCIL and ASTM procedures is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to those applications with previous relevant experience (including co-op work terms).
The position requires that you own a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a Valid Class G Driver's License.
